Report on
BRF-ML Annual Memorial Lecture/Seminar Series

The
Annual
Memorial Lecture/Seminar Series initiated by BRF-ML is an attempt
to learn from the lives and works of eminent visionaries from
Kerala who were exemplary leaders and achievers. The Memorial
Lecture Series has initiated a revisit of Kerala's spiritual
and cultural legacy leading to the build up of a commonly shared,
integrated and growth-oriented value system in educational,
economic, social and political life.
The three memorial lectures are devoted to the memory of: Sri
Narayana Guru, K. C. Mamman Mappilai and V. K. Krishna Menon.
The themes of these lectures are respectively "Spirituality,
Culture and Living Values for a Growing Society,"Economics,
Leadership and Values For A Competitive Economy, and, "Science,
Technology, Environment and Social Change". The memorial
lecture series, inaugurated in 2003, will be an annual public
event.
The
inaugural series of lectures generated wide interest and participation.
The first (February 8, 2003) and the second (January 24, 2004)
VK Krishna Menon Memorial Lectures were given by the distinguished
scientists of India - Prof MGK Menon and Dr Raja Ramanna. The
first (18 January, 2003) and the second (January 17, 2004) Sri
Narayana Guru Memorial Lectures were delivered by the veteran
literary figure of Kerala, Prof Vishnu Narayanan Namputiri,
and the wellknown Vedanta teacher and spiritual Acharya of Sambodh
organisations, HH Swami Bodhananda. The first (February 1, 2003)
and the second (February 7, 2004) KC Mammen Mappilai Memorial
lectures were given by the former Judge of the Supreme Court
of India Justice S Mohan, and the CEO of Bharatiya Yuva Sakti
Trust, Smt Lakshmi V Venkatesan. There were also eminent panelists
at all the lecture seminars presenting their views. The lecture
seminars ended with engaging discussion and interaction between
the speakers and the audience. The Memorial Lecture Seminar
Series was funded by different agencies and supported by a distinguished
advisory and organising committee.
The
full proceedings of the Memorial Lecture Series of 2003 was
published and is now available for a nominal fee. This volume
is considered to be an important document consisting of the
views and visions of the eminent leaders of this country.
